OpenAI, the artificial intelligence (AI) company, could soon make its mark in the world of robotics. As reported by The Information, OpenAI is planning to enter the humanoid robotics sector. The company is reportedly in discussions about bringing in humanoid robots. Let’s take a look at the big plans it has before 2024.
OpenAI to bring the robot human
Until 2021, OpenAI had a specific section for robotics. However, she had to close the department because she decided to focus more on it artificial intelligence programming. This was confirmed by Wojciech Zaremba, the leader of that band during that period. He announced in a podcast that the team abandoned him because they could not train something to the level of intelligence required.
But now, back in 2024, the company is once again planning to make a fresh start and enter this sector. Some other reports suggest that OpenAI is also aiming to collaborate with TSMC and Broadcom. The goal is to develop the first in-house chip to support its AI systems.
Future plans
Looking to the future, OpenAI is also investing in robotics startups. The list includes physical intelligence, shape AI and 1X technologies. These startups are building humanoid robots and developing artificial general intelligence, or AGI.
In addition, OpenAI also plans to develop its own inference model and AI agent. It will be designed to “help automate and analyze all types of software engineering tasks.” But so far no official announcement has been made about these plans.
Well, OpenAI is not the only company making its mark in the field of humanoid robotics. Already there are other players out there. For example, you have a Tesla Bot called Optimus, and an Atlas made by Boston Dynamics. It seems that OpenAI also wants to enter the market and compete in this field.
