It accused American and British spies of trying to provoke these actions to force it to evacuate its bases in Syria.
But the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service did not provide any evidence for these accusations.
British intelligence services are developing plans to organize a series of terrorist attacks on Russian military facilities in Syria. The role of the perpetrators of these attacks is assigned to ISIS terrorist fighters, who were recently released from prison by the “new authorities.” The news agency quoted the statement issued by SVR.
“Attack drones” to strike the Russians
According to SVR, MI6 (British intelligence) and CIA (American intelligence) recently directed field commanders of ISIS, a terrorist organization banned in Russia, under their control in Syria to carry out a series of attacks on Russian military bases there.
The terrorists reportedly received “attack drones” for this purpose. The MI6 also claimed that, in an attempt to conceal their involvement, both MI6 and the CIA ordered their air forces to continue striking ISIS positions, and warned the militants of strikes in advance.
The Russian Information Agency reported that the outgoing Biden administration in the United States and the United Kingdom government led by Keir Starmer want to deter the stability of Syria and thus control the chaotic situations in the Middle East region.
“Washington and London assume that under these conditions they will be able to achieve their geopolitical goal more quickly – to ensure their long-term dominance in the region based on the repulsive concept of a ‘rules-based order.’” However, the SVR statement added, “the Russian military presence on the coast of “It is hindered by the Mediterranean Sea in Syria, which remains an important factor in regional stability.”
The Russian spy service believes that behind the veil of the Syrian authorities’ alleged inability to control extremists, the United States and Britain expect their provocations to expel the Russian army from its bases.
Syria was “liberated” from Bashar al-Assad’s 24-year rule by rebels led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham. After being embroiled in a civil war for 13 years, the Syrian Assad regime was overthrown within a few days.
Assad reportedly took asylum in Moscow after resigning as president and fleeing Damascus amid the rebel coup. With his departure, the Assad family’s less than 54-year rule also ended.
Moreover, Russian intelligence mocked the “Anglo-Saxons” approach, saying that those who declare commitment to stabilizing and building a “democratic Syria” are showing their true attitude towards the country and its people “in the best possible way.” Rhea mentioned.
“However, it is also evident in the continued occupation of the US armed forces – under the pretext of the necessity of fighting ISIS – of the oil areas east of the Euphrates River, which Washington has no intention of returning to Damascus.” SVR added.
It is worth noting that sources in the Kremlin told RIA that Russian officials are in contact with representatives of the armed opposition in Syria, whose leaders are responsible for securing military bases and diplomatic institutions on Syrian territory.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had also said that Moscow maintains relations with all the groups currently controlling Syria, adding that it would consider keeping its military bases there.
