The House Democrat who chairs the party’s campaign committee says she wants to “build on” the “things we did right” in the 2024 elections as she works to regain the House majority in the 2026 midterm elections.
While the party lost control of the White House and Republicans overturned the majority in the Senate while holding on to their fragile control of the House of Representatives, the Democrats were able to take a small bite out of the Republican Party’s majority in Congress.
Republicans will have a razor-thin 220-215 majority in the next Congress, meaning Democrats only need to win three seats in the 2026 midterm elections to take back the chamber for the first time in four years.
GOP campaign chairman touts the advantages of local turf
“We won in tough areas, and we outperformed across the country,” Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairwoman Rep. Susan DelBene of Washington state said in a recent Fox News Digital interview.
The 2024 successes are “a good example of what we need to continue to pursue into 2026,” said DelBene, who is on his second consecutive tour of duty directing the party’s campaign committee.
Vance may be the 2028 GOP presidential nominee, but the RNC chairman also likes the party’s ‘bench’
“First, you have great candidates who are independent-minded and focused on the needs of their communities,” DelBene said. “These candidates and their votes were critical in this election.”
“Making sure they are,” DelBene said [the candidates] “Getting the resources they need to get information to voters and continue to address the issues that matter most to their communities, cutting costs, and making sure there is economic opportunity” are also top priorities.
Chairman of the Senate Republican Campaign Committee outlines his 2026 mission
With President-elect Trump returning to the White House next month, and the Republican Party controlling both chambers of Congress, DelBene said Republicans “will be responsible for what they do in this country and its impact on working families.”
“We will hold them accountable for their voices and the actions they take, especially if they do not support working families,” she stressed. “I think people want to see governance succeed. So, if Republicans are not willing to work in a bipartisan way to get things done, that will be a key part of the 2026 election as well.”
The ruling party usually takes a heavy hit in the next congressional elections, which means that the Democrats will be buffeted by historic winds.

Looking at the 2026 map, DelBene noted that Democrats will have “opportunities all over the country.”
She said the DCCC’s mission is “to reach voters where they are and make sure they have accurate information about where our candidates stand.”
