This month, Halifax Health opened its newest emergency room building in Port Orange — the first part of a new multi-facility location on Williamson Street.
Hospital staff and community members gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Dec. 14 to open the approximately 9,000-square-foot building, which is located on the corner of Williamson Street and Airport Road, just outside the Ashton Lakes subdivision.
The facility, called Port Orange South, includes another 7,000-square-foot medical office building and is scheduled to open on January 2.
The facility is “the region’s only free-standing emergency department staffed exclusively by board-certified emergency room physicians,” according to a press release from John Guthrie, vice president and spokesperson for Halifax Health.
Halifax Health also promises to provide “state-of-the-art medical technology” and 24/7 “comprehensive” care for patients of all ages.
Other features of Halifax’s new emergency room include:
- “Advanced diagnostic capabilities and on-site imaging.
- Seamless connectivity to Halifax Health’s comprehensive specialist services network.
“While this opening represents an expansion for Halifax Health into Port Orange South, additional phases may be explored in the future as part of the system’s broader vision to further enhance local health care services,” Guthrie added.
Expand as the community grows
In an email to The News-Journal earlier this year, Guthrie said Halifax’s expansion into the city’s south side comes as the local community grows, along with the needs of medical demand.
“The Airport Road land purchase is our effort to provide access and choice to the residents of southeastern Volusia County,” Guthrie wrote.
The location of the new facility “emphasizes access and choice” for both the south side of Port Orange and New Smyrna Beach residents who live nearby, said Jeff Wessel, president and CEO of Halifax Health.
“This emergency department reflects our ongoing mission to meet the diverse needs of our community while maintaining the highest standards of medical excellence,” Wessel said in a press release.
The expansion “underscores Halifax Health’s dedication to promoting a healthier community by providing immediate access to life-saving care,” Guthrie said.
He said Halifax Health will continue to monitor the community as it grows larger “and provide additional health care services as requested by the community.”
Prior to the new facility, Halifax Health opened its newest location in the city in 2022 – the Halifax Health ExpressCare facility at Belvedere Medical Park, which is also home to Radiology Associates, Halifax Health Primary Care and Halifax Health Pediatric Care.
The new Halifax – Port Orange South Emergency Health Department is located at 6225 S. Williamson Blvd. The facility can be reached at 386-425-7400.
