
US President-elect Donald Trump has announced several key nominations for the incoming Trump 2.0 administration, including new US ambassadors to Portugal and Malta, along with a special envoy for Latin America.
The announcements were made via posts on his social media platform, Truth Social.
“It is my great honor to announce that John Arrigo will be the next United States Ambassador to Portugal,” Trump said in a post on Wednesday.
Trump praised Arrigo, saying: “John is a very successful auto businessman and a champion golfer. For over thirty years, he has been an incredible leader in West Palm Beach business, respected by everyone. I knew him.” “John will long do a great job for our country, and will always put America first.”
Arrigo is currently vice president of Arrigo Automotive Group, which operates out of West Palm Beach, Florida, where Trump frequently hosts meetings at his Mar-a-Lago resort, The Hill reported.
In another post, Trump announced the appointment of Somers Farkas as US ambassador to Malta. “I am pleased to announce that Somers Farkas will be the next United States Ambassador to the Republic of Malta,” he wrote.
Highlighting Farkas’s credentials, Trump noted, “Sommers is a model, philanthropist, documentary producer, and highly successful businesswoman. She previously served on the White House Presidential Fellowships Committee and has raised millions of dollars for charitable causes, including for the American Society of America.” . Trump had previously announced the appointment of Mauricio Claver Carone as the State Department’s special envoy for Latin America. He had indicated that his appointment would help put America’s interests first and address the issues of “the serious threats we face from mass illegal immigration and fentanyl.”
