Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., who just narrowly won re-election in a state that also went to President-elect Trump, is calling on Democrats to make Nevada the top state in the nation’s primary in the 2028 presidential election.
“We’re very proud to look like the rest of the nation. We’re the most racially diverse state,” she said in an interview with Fox News Digital.
In a memo earlier this month, the Nevada Democratic Party also made the argument that the state should be first in the upcoming presidential race.

“If Democrats want to win back working-class voters and rebuild our broad coalition of voters of color, we must elevate the most diverse and working-class state in the country to be the premier presidential primary of the 2028 cycle,” the state wrote. Party Chairman Daniel Munro Moreno reported Independent Nevada.
Rosen listed some of the traits Nevadans have that make it a great place to start for Democrats. “We have one of the fastest growing indigenous Asian-American groups in the Hawaiian Pacific Islands in the country. We have a really strong and engaged black community,” she explained. “We are a strong federal state – a labor-intensive state. We have tourism. We can talk about tourism – the No. 1 economic driver in every state in this nation.”

“What I hope is that anyone who wants to be a leader of the Democratic Party… if they come to Nevada, will be able to hear from a diverse group of businesses and individuals — with about 200,000 veterans,” the senator said.
“Come hear from our small businesses, our veterans, our seniors, all the different groups. You’ll be able to hear what people are worried about again and what they’re hoping for,” she added.
The Nevada Democratic senator’s push for the first primary in 2028 comes as Democrats prepare to choose a new party leader. Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Jaime Harrison has announced his intention to step down after the 2024 election. A number of Democrats have already announced their candidacy to be the next leader.

The push to make Nevada’s primary the top one also comes after the decision to make South Carolina’s primary the top one in the 2024 election caused significant opposition, especially from New Hampshire, which previously held the title of the top Democratic primary in the country. .
Rosen also reflected on her narrow election victory over Republican nominee Sam Brown and her run over Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
“Nevada races are always close,” she began.
According to the Democrat, “I’ll tell you my motto really is: Agree where you can. Fight where you must. And be practical to get results.”

Rosen emphasized her bipartisan efforts during her campaign, pointing to several groups that ranked her among the most bipartisan members of Congress and Senate.
“I have been able to deliver for the state of Nevada, making me one of the most partisan, effective and independent senators, and always putting Nevada first,” she said.

Her advice to Democrats across the country, including those running in competitive races in 2026, is to “be present. Get involved. Listen to people. Find out what they’re worried about. Find out what they hope for. Be practical and do it.” Be practical and look for places where you can agree.”
