Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud wasn’t as good in Year 2 as he was in this year’s rookie season in 2023. And Houston fans are taking notice.
Stroud and his teammates were booed by the home crowd on Christmas Day, and Stroud said after the match that he couldn’t say they were at fault.
“People are entitled to their opinions and they care about the game. Their feelings matter, so I understand that,” Stroud said. “This isn’t my first time and it probably won’t be my last. This is not something to internalize and point fingers at yourself, but something you can use to motivate you, so you don’t want those moments anymore. I hope to have a lot of football in my career, God willing, and I know that this will be a story that I will tell one day and that will help me in the long run. It’s part of life. You hit a lot of valleys and you have a lot of mountain peaks. It’s a cliche, but there would be no sunny days if there were no rainy days. So, this is a rainy day, but at the end of the day, the sun will come out tomorrow and we’ll have another crack at this thing next week and keep it rolling.
Stroud is worse across the board this year: lower completion percentage, lower yards per pass, lower passer rating. Fewer landings and fewer first downs. More interceptions, more sacks. Stroud admitted that he did not play well in the loss to the Ravens.
“I kept missing it. I wasn’t making throws,” Stroud said.
With the Texans locked into the No. 4 seed in the AFC, they have some time to regroup for the playoffs. When they need Stroud to be a lot better.
